My First Digital Scrapbook Page!

I've long admired Jasia for her wonderful digital scrapbooking pages. She's so talented--as a writer, family historian, photographer, digital scrapbooker, and carnival host. I've enjoyed her Creative Genealogy blog as well as her Creative Gene blog. Today at Creative Genealogy, she mentioned the Christmas Around the World collaborative kit, a digital scrapbooking kit put together by 113 designers, with nearly everything mixing and matching. I have recently purchased an external hard drive at a sweet price, originally with the intent for loading documents and images from Scanfest, thanks to a Black Friday tip that also came from Jasia. Well, I took a look at these delicious-looking kits and had to download a few. I played around and came up with my very first digital scrapbook page, and am so proud of myself! It features my great-great-grandmother, Berber "Barbara" J. (DeJong) Valk, with her grandson, Gerritt John Heidema, Jr., taken most likely during the Winter of 1919 - 1920, at her home at 1315 West Leonard Street in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. That part of Grand Rapids was still fairly rural and had recently been purchased by the city from Wyoming Township, thus the barn in the background:

I'll admit I've got a learning curve ahead of me, but I'm just pleased as punch! The backgrounds and most of the elements come from A-liya's Dreams, while the green ribbon is courtesy of Nore's Nice-ities. I'm in awe of these talented designers!

For a beginner you need to pat yourself on the back...well done! What a wonderful picture to start with as well!

Great job! I'm happy to see you've added another added another addiction to your bag of genea-goodies. What a delightful way to document your family history.

Miriam - I think you did great on your page! The more you do, the better the "learning curve" gets!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! You did a terrific job Miriam! You beat me to the punch too. I haven't had a chance to unzip any of the 60 or so kits I downloaded from Christmas Around the World.

Thank you for your very kind compliments, Miriam. I'm going through a very difficult time right now and your comments really brightened my day. That and seeing your first scrapbook page!

I look forward to seeing what you create next. I just know I'll love it!

Thank you for all your kind words. I don't think my family is that excited that I've found yet another hobby to do on the computer! ;-)

Here it is January 2011, and I've just now run across your first scrapbooking page! I love it! Love the snow and the way you've incorporated the old photo. Hope to run across more of your pages.

Judith, I want to create more pages, but my computer was down between May and October 2009 and during that time, I forgot how to use some of the tools in my PaintShop Pro to work with the elements to decorate the pages. I just haven't had time to fiddle around with them and figure it out again!
