Scanfest Reminder

Just a reminder: Scanfest is tomorrow, from 11 AM to 2 PM, PDT. Get out those photo albums, photo boxes, piles of documents and cotton gloves!

I'm going to scan a photo album my maternal grandmother made as a teenager, featuring photos of her friends and family members, including her paternal grandparents.

What are you going to scan?

Surname Saturday: STRONG

My STRONG line ties into one of America's most well-connected family trees. It is through this line that I am related to such notables as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, George W. Bush, Princess Diana, J. Pierpont Morgan, Bess Wallace Truman, and Nathan Hale, to name a few. I'm also related to fellow geneablogger, TK, of Before My Time.

FamilySearch Indexing Update: Freedmen Letters from North Carolina Will Help Expand Popular African American Collection Online

25 June 2010

A project to index Freedmen Letters from North Carolina is now available. This is the second Freedmen’s Bureau collection FamilySearch has worked on with the National Archives. These records provide the earliest major compilation of information on many emancipated slaves, freed Blacks, and Black Union soldiers, including names, marriages, education and employment information, and receipt of rations, health care, and legal support.
