January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

The days are short, The sun a spark
Hung thin between the dark and dark.
Fat snowy footsteps track the floor.
Milk bottles burst outside the door.
The river is a frozen place
Held still beneath the trees of lace.
The sky is low, the wind is gray.
The radiator purrs all day.

What a beautiful post to start 2009 ~ I love the graphics :-) I just started reading your blog - 2009 is going to be my year to finally really WORK on all my geanalogy so I'm glad I discovered it.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2009!
Thank you, DLR. They are purchased from Pat's Web Graphics. She has both free and for sale graphics and I've used them on my genealogy website, also called AnceStories.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you discovered this blog, and I wish you much success in your research!
Thanks for a very useful and a very pretty post. Around January 25 is the time for Robbie Burns suppers too - this year many of us with Scottish backgrounds will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the poet's birthday.
ReplyDeleteThere will be lots of Burns supper events in British Columbia, Canada - some not entirely traditional, like the annual and now celebrated Gung Haggis Fat Choy event: http://www.gunghaggisfatchoy.com/blog/_archives/2008/12/12/4018620.html
Diane, thank so much for the reminder of the Burns Supper. I actually wrote about this last year and meant to add it to this year's January calendar.
ReplyDeleteI've just updated this post for January 25th. Thanks again!
