Too many researchers just copy what they see on someone's tree, and look no further. I must confess this is where I begin. I take the information, and at a later date, I research the names further. As you know, each name, to be verified, takes time. It's a long process, but worth it. I am an amateur researcher, but am trying to follow the proper techniques. Do you have any suggestions> Thanks again for being here.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04316796996891896668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38696983.post-68281710665625731422018-04-17T01:52:58.941-07:002018-04-17T01:52:58.941-07:00oops meant to add..my own daughter is named Anneli...oops meant to add..my own daughter is named Annelise which we often shorten to Nan but could easily have been shortened to Nell or Nellie

herberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08472905146002941940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38696983.post-70663157782865346252018-04-17T01:50:56.787-07:002018-04-17T01:50:56.787-07:00Probably she was officially named Anna and then El...Probably she was officially named Anna and then Elenor or Ellen or some such thing.
If Ann was already in use in the family, she would be named FOR the person and then have her own family name that was always used instead.
My late neighbour who was 103 was named Margaret after her mother but was called Ivy all her life. She of course named her daughter Margaret too to follow tradition.
My great grandmother was Mary and so was her eldest daughter who was then named Polly for every day use.
It does make hunting for family in census returns quite confusing :)
herberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08472905146002941940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38696983.post-83081907568197502332018-03-17T09:22:12.072-07:002018-03-17T09:22:12.072-07:00Lovely pictures -- to grace your wall.
