A Civil War Soldier: Pvt. William DICKINSON (1819 - 1901)

Born: 29 November 1819 in Litchfield, Litchfield Co., Connecticut

Parents: Philip DICKINSON (1770 - 1859) and Phoebe HUTCHINSON (1773 - 1858)

Children: Like many of the Dickinsons, William was prolific. He had 19 children between his two wives. With Caroline he had the following:

I found the information about the civil war vets especially interesting since two great great grandfathers were mentioned--the first being William L. Ryan, 2 nd Lt, of Muskegon as one of the officers of Co. H of the Michigan 3rd when they formed, and the 2nd being James Maze, editor of the Newaygo Republican who wrote the editorial calling for enlistments from Newaygo. Wm Ryan eventually became a major and was disabled by a wound in the thigh at the second Battle of Bull Run.
